Come and See - Preparation and Implementation

The writing of the new ‘Come and See’ programme which is to replace ‘Here I Am’ is making excellent progress.  The new scheme is scheduled to be introduced into our schools in September 2012.  I am keen that our teachers are kept informed regarding the content and quality of the materials.

With this in mind,I shall be leading a series of twilight sessions for teachers in schools throughout the diocese during the Summer term.I shall also provide schools with a four week block of the new programme to replace the final topic of the 'Here I Am' in the Summer term.

There shall also be two information days regarding the content, delivery and implementation of the new programme. These are open to Headteachers, staff, governors and clergy. The dates and venues are as follows:

Holy Trinity Community Centre, Newark - Wednesday 2nd May, 2012 ( 9:30-3:00)

Diocesan Centre, Mackworth, Derby - Tuesday 8th May, 2012 (9:30 - 3:00).

I have also decided to run one further 'Come and See' training day for teachers to facilitate those unable to attend any of the twilight sessions. The date and venue for this day is as follows:

Diocesan Centre, Mackworth, Derby - Monday 9th July, 2012 (9:30 - 3:00).

If you wish to make a booking for one of the above please contact Helen at the Diocesan Centre.

Do please contact me it you require additional information on the 'Come and See' programme.

Lead Teachers for Religious Education - update

May I remind schools of our initiative regarding the appointment of Primary RE Lead Teachers.  This is an exciting opportunity for teachers within our diocese to become part of a small team, providing support to complement the RE provision already in place.

To date we have appointed three Lead Teachers who shall participate in an Induction day this term.

I shall keep schools updated with regards to future developments regarding this initiative.

Meanwhile, if you have any questions regarding the role or how best it may benefit you or your school do please contact me at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

As part of our on-going drive to improve assessment strategies and provision within Religious Education in our diocese, may I remind schools of the assessment tasks for the ‘Thanksgiving’ topic which is available within the 'Here I Am' section of the website.

May I also request that a selection of the work completed within the tasks are brought to the forthcoming Co-ordinators’ day at Mackworth on Tuesday 27th March 2012 in order to discuss and moderate the outcomes.

In addition, there are a series of Moderation sessions taking place in the Spring term, details of which can be found below.

Monday 12th March 2012 - St.Augustine Webster, Scunthorpe - 3:45pm - 5:30pm

The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, that a man took and sowed in his field.  It is smaller than all other seeds, but once it has fully grown, it is bigger than any garden plant; like a tree, the birds come and rest in its branches. Matthew 13:31-32
