CATECHESIS
Aim
The purpose of this module is to enable participants
to reflect on the nature of catechesis and its significance
in the Church today.
Learning Outcomes
Participants should :
- be
familiar with biblical models of catechesis (Emmaus,
2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:2, John 1: 35 - 39)
- recognise
the New Testament writings as the basis of subsequent
developments in catechesis
- appreciate
the relationship between content and method in
catechesis
- appreciate
the distinction between the evangelisation, catechesis
and Religious Education
- be
able to communicate what they have learned from
adults stance
Learning Process
This will include:

reflection on personal experience
-
related input to deepen understanding
-
the gathering of information through reading and
listening
-
group discussion .

- What
is Catechesis?
- Biblical
models of catechesis
- An
overveiw of the process of catechesis as developed
in the earliest days and later practices. (Back
to where we started from).
- Catechesis,
Evangelisation and Religious Education (Home/School/Parish)
- Content
and method in catechesis
- Catechism
and directory
- RCIA
and/or confirmation/Eucharist/Reconciliation
Assessment for CCRS
Students
Participants will be credited with this module
upon satisfying both of the following conditions:
-
Attendance for at least 80% of the ten hours'
contact time
-
Successful completion of an Assignment based on
some aspect of the content of this module and
related to one or more of the identified learning
outcomes.

Assignment Titles
Examples
of assignment titles are:
- " The heart of modern catechetics is
teaching from life... It is not surprising that
after twenty centuries we should rediscover the
fact that Christ understood better than anyone the
best way to teach religion"
Discuss
with reference to key text and your own experience
of the process of catechesis.

Using the process of the Pastoral Cycle, develop
a session for the use with one of the following
groups:-
- RCIA
- First
Communion Parents
- Confirmation
Group
- Parents
Seeking Baptism
Decide
what subject would be the focus.
For
each stage of the cycle describe the method/activity,
questions you would ask and thinking/theology behind
the process.
